Adding Value to the Regions
New research has highlighted the critical role the North East Assembly plays in securing economic and sustainable growth in the region. A recent report, Adding Value to the Regions, identified a wide range of areas where Regional Assemblies are making a positive impact in their regions.

North East Strategy for the Environment
The North East Environment Forum has published the consultation draft of the North East Strategy for the Environment (NESE). The Forum has been developing regional consensus and co-ordinating delivery on behalf of the environment sector for the past eight years, and is the regional-level voice for the environment of the North East.

Region's youth to be showcased
How young people can get more involved in community life is to be the subject of a Europe-wide study, according to research proposals put forward by regional leaders on an EU committee.

NEA Response to the Eddington Report on Transport
The North East Assembly had a mixed reaction to the publication of the Eddington Report into the future of transport. The NEA welcomed areas of the report where it is consistent with the Regional Transport Strategy which the North East Assembly submitted to the Government. However, the Assembly has specific concerns about some measures that could lead to the region falling further behind in its economic and transport development.

North East Assembly response to the Barker Review of Land Use Planning
The North East Assembly is the 'Regional Planning Body' for North East England and as such has responsibility for setting the framework for development across the region over the next 15 years. This is contained in the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) which guides the policies developed by local planning authorities in their local development frameworks and so it knits together and coordinates what types of development take place and where in the region.
