Sustaine

Sustaine is the independent champion body for sustainable development in North East England. Sustaine work to advocate and embed sustainable development across the region. The Sustaine Board is made up of an independent panel of experts and has a significant role in helping the North east to develop in a sustainable way.

Sustaine uses the Integrated Regional Framework to ensure that all regional strategies and policies support the economic, social and environmental needs of North East England. It was used to inform the production of the regional spatial strategy, the regional housing strategy and the regional economic strategy, and is used widely in the region, in the preparation of other plans.

Sustaine leads on a Sustainable Communities North East Initiative (SCNEI), a partnership project which aims to achieve the best possible quality of life for the people of North East England. The Brighter Futures Together Toolkit provides information on how local communities can take action to become more sustainable and where they can seek further help, advice and funding opportunities, and provides local best practice examples.
