Planning for sustainable development
Sustainable development is an integral aspect of the regions strategies. The Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) and the Regional Housing Strategy (RHS)embedded the principles of sustainable development as a cross-cutting theme throughout. The RSS recognised the link between economic growth and environmental impact, built on the sustainability objectives included in the Integrated Regional Framework (IRF) and identified how to work to achieve sustainable development within the North East. Significant progress has been made in a number of these areas. In this section provides more information about some of the methods that were used to support the implementation of sustainable development policies.
