Rural Board
Rural Board and North East Rural Priorities Statement In 2007 the North East Assembly (NEA) took on responsibility for providing the secretariat for the Regional Rural Board in its work to produce and promote the region's ‘rural priorities statement'. The ‘statement' describes the vision and priorities for improving the quality of life in our rural areas, and pulls together the outcomes that need to be achieved if the region is to ensure that the North East's rural communities are well positioned to tackle the challenges they face, and make the most of opportunities as they arise. The board worked with key regional partners to ensure that the region's residents benefited from the priorities statement, and that rural issues were considered in key regional strategies. The NEA supported the board in advocating key messages in the statement, and encouraging others to play their part in delivering the outcomes which would lead to sustainable rural areas, and a high quality of life for people who live and work there. Following changes in governance in the region resulting from the sub national review, the Rural Board held its last meeting in 2009 as rural policy aimed to be mainstreamed in the region.
