Monitoring: The Annual Monitoring Report
The North East Planning Body (NEPB) was responsible for monitoring the implementation of and the effectiveness of the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS). What was the Annual Monitoring Report? The Annual Monitoring Report (AMR) showed how North East England performed as a region in terms of meeting the aims and objectives set out in the regional spatial strategy for the North East, (RSS). It was a key planning document for the NEA and other key partners in the region. A collective vision for the regionThe AMR also showed the extent of the progress made through the RSS towards achieving the collective vision for the region, which was endorsed by the NEA and its partners: "The North East will be a region where present and future generations have a high quality of life. It will be a vibrant, self-reliant, ambitious and outward looking region, featuring a dynamic economy, a healthy environment and a distinctive culture. Everyone will have the opportunity to realise their full potential."
The NEPB developed its strategic planning policy with this vision in mind. Improvements to the built and natural environments, better housing, sustainable rural and urban communities, improved transport links and more leisure, retail and recreational facilities all combined over time to bring improvements to the quality of life of people in the North East England. Who contributed to the AMR?The data provided in the AMR was collected from a variety of governmental and non-governmental organisations, including local authorities, English Nature and the Environment Agency. Regional collaboration in producing this report was essential in order to deliver the RSS. When was the AMR submitted? Each year the deadline for submitting the AMR to the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) was 28 February. Download Annual Monitoring Report 2008-09.
