Strategy alignment
The NEA had a statutory role in producing the regional spatial strategy and the regional housing and transport strategies. It also had a specific role in helping the regional development agency, One North East, to develop policies based on the regional economic strategy, that lead to sustainable economic development in the region and complement the regional spatial, housing and transport strategies. There are many other regional strategies and policies that shape the way the region is maintained and developed, aiming at providing a sustainable quality of life. The NEA had an important role in aligning these strategies in a way that ensures they complement each other. It did this by working with partners in the region to produce the Integrated Regional Framework (IRF) which has a vision and a set of objectives for the region that is shared across all regional strategies. The IRF was produced in 2004 and has been updated to ensure it reflects the rgeions needs now and into the future.
