Delivering economic prosperity and growth
The North East Planning Body (NEPB) is committed to helping to deliver a stronger, more vibrant economy that benefits all of the people in the North East. Improving the North East's economy is a key factor in helping to reduce regional disparities and to ensure sustainable communities. The NEPB has prioritised improving the economy at the core of its work as part of the strategic planning process, through scrutiny and policy development and as a key consideration in integrating regional strategies. Lobbying for resources and change The NEPB provides a strong voice for the region, lobbying for changes both nationally and internationally. The NEPB meets regularly with the Government to influence and respond to Government policy. It also plays a major role in stating the case for more resources for the region and providing the Government with advice on how money can best be spent. Through the Regional Funding Allocation (RFA) process, the NEPB is able to work with our partners to advise the Government on the level of funding required to meet the housing, transport and economic development needs of the region. Regional Economic StrategyThe Regional Economic Strategy for the North East provides a framework for economic development and regeneration. By raising productivity, establishing an entrepreneurial culture, creating a healthy labour market and a skilled workforce, recognising the role of universities and having excellent transport links, the North East will be able to become more self reliant and realise its ambitious. The Northern Way The wealth and opportunity gap between the North and the South of England have resulted in a coordinated effort to build on the strengths of the northern regions in a more coordinated way through the Northern Way. The Northern Way is a unique collaboration between the three Northern Regional Development Agencies: Yorkshire Forward, Northwest Regional Development Agency and One NorthEast. It aims to transform the economy of the North of England over the next 20 years by the bridging of a £30billion output gap between the North and the average for England. The Northern Way focuses on tackling issues that are important for the whole of the North and which cannot be tacked by one region alone.
