Welcome to the strategy integration website for North East England This website provides information about the local government strand of work in planning, housing, transport, scrutiny and sustainable development, which will feed into the development of the new Regional Strategy. The North East Assembly (NEA) closed in March due to the impact of local government reorganisation, which saw North East England move to 12 unitary local authorities on 1 April 2009, and the Government's sub national review of economic development and regeneration, which called for regional assemblies to end by 2010. Statutory responsibilities will continue until the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill is enacted. Once this happens the development, implementation and monitoring of the new single Regional Strategy will become the joint responsibility of the Association of North East Council's Leaders Board and One North East (ONE). You can use this website to find out more about: - work on strategy integration as the region moves towards a single Regional Strategy;
- the strategic framework for planning, housing, transport and sustainable development in North East England;
- ongoing work in critical policy analysis and evidence gathering, which will inform the development of a single Regional Strategy;
- the work of regional partnerships and boards on sustainable development and climate change to improve the economy, the environment and people's quality of life; and
- the previous work of the NEA in ensuring ONE was accountable to the region and providing a voice for the region internationally.
